Medicine Men

Written and Directed by Guy Malim. 19 mins. 2012

The scientist and the showman.

Dr. William Rossdale is a widower, single father and the only doctor in a frontier town being ravaged by a plague. His vaccination is misunderstood and feared.

Dr. Ozwald Godfrey, a medical showman, arrives in town; selling a little hope where it is most needed.

The town is quickly drawn to the optimism and quick fix of the showman; and his promises confirm their distrust of the scientist’s fearful facts.

The rival doctors investigate each other’s medicine. The scientist reveals the showman’s tonic to be cosmetic; whilst the showman comes as a secret patient to be vaccinated.

As the town grows sick, the blame is laid at the feet of the unnatural scientist, until he is left with one final awful choice.

Dr Rossdale strikes a deal for the ages with the showman; Dr Godfrey can sell his vaccine, keep all the profit, even spout his lies; whatever it takes to keep the town safe.

Dr. William Rossdale

I need you to listen carefully. Stay at home, lock you doors and don't go to work. Noone not safe. There is a plague among us and it doesn't matter if you're a sinner or cleansed, if you're rich or poor, if you have faith or if you're alone. It's coming.

Call me Waldo. Gather round and I'll introduce my tonics and ointments that have made my name famous across the lands. I've cured cholera in Colorado, measles in Missouri and even gonorrhea in little Georgia. The grateful harlot.
