Zen and the art of the mental breakdown.
The most talented and tortured junior Tennis player of her generation “Ultra Violet” competes in gladiatorial grand slams whilst wrestling with anorexia, self harm, bullying and boyfriends, in this visceral and thrilling sports series.
Violet uses many different voices, impeccable media trained to talk to the press and her sponsors, guarded with her coaches and her rivals and secretive with her family. But only when she is on court we can hear, through a narrative conceit, her inner mind.
Tennis is best played with a quiet mind but her “court voice” allows us to hear her deepest unresolved issues that pierce through at moments of highest tension.
It is not just Violet who is having her story told. 5 of the top girls from UK, Argentina, USA, Taiwan and France are playing the same tournaments.
Empathy for the other athletes is pricked whilst following Violet, and after the season is over, you can choose who to watch next. Following each girls personal preparations at home and trials at the grand slams.
These layers create a truly global, complex experience that challenge the notion “the rules are all the same.”
